According to Iseljenici otoka Brača
by K. Derado and I. Čizmić (Brački Zbornik 13, 1982),
712 persons emigrated from Bol in the time period from 1864 to 1940.
It was economic emigration, in contrast to the emigration during and
after the Second World War which was political predominantly. As
high as this emigration was for a settlement of population below two
thousand, it has to be noticed that this is recorded, legal
emigration only - while illegal was also high.
Age
distribution of the emigrants relates well with the personal
maturity, ages 22 to 26, while the peak at age 18 reflects the legal
requirement for a personal decision on emigration. Male to female
ratio of emigrants was roughly three to one, with somewhat more
mature female emigrants (average age of 26.9 years) than male
(24.5).
