When
you think about life, then - regardless of your general world
view, philosophy so to speak - the two greatest absurdities of
life seems to be sex and death. Why so many species, plants
included, reproduce by sex when they could simply produce their
clones, the copies of themselves? Why all the species invest so
much into the birth and upbringing of a next generation which will
grow old and die? The science of evolution is closing on the
answers but the jury is still out there.
In
the meantime, various religions, although shaken in their
strongholds, are selling their comforting answers. Or, rather, the
replacement consoling stories. And, the more primitive a religion,
the more ludicrous are the stories. Christianity is a good
example. Recall the Christ story as the Christianity’s
"patches" for sex and death: Virgin Birth and
Resurrection!
