color vs grayscale When I took a photo of Zlatni Rat on a rainy day (see below, left), it remind me of my old grayscale photos (‘black and white photos’, we call them at the time). And yes, for this particular photo, converting it into the grayscale mode by Photoshop (below, on the right) does very little. The Photoshop gray levels (shades) of the converted pixels represent the luminosity of the original pixels. But nowadays I take photos with a color appreciation in mind - which is quite a different ‘camera philosophy’ from the old days. No wonder, my best ‘black and white photos’ were taken in winter (rollover: sunny morning on the left and snowy/foggy afternoon on the right). |
