wild
flowers of Grabov Rat
One
of the projects I’ve imposed on myself unsucces- sfully (so far)
is a catalog of wild flowers on Grabov Rat. The project feels
irresistible because of an indescribable magic and appeal of those
flowers, that on the top of their unimaginable diversity. And the
project is frightening for the same reasons.
Love-in-a-mist
(Nigella damascena). Short to medium annual, generally
branched above. Leaves with slender linear divisions, uppermost
leaves in a whorl just beneath the flower. Flowers pale to bright
blue, rarely whitish, 20-32 mm, with yellow or greenish anthers.
Fruit inflated and bladder like, the 5-6 follicles united for their
entire length; seeds edible. Fields, rocky and waste places,
waysides; commonly grown in gardens, where white, pink, purple and
blue forms occur. Flowering times: Apr-July.
Widespread
in the Mediterranean region. |
