San Bruno is ablaze.

On the night before our move from California to Michigan, a wildfire advanced on the San Bruno mountain as close as a mile from our Brisbane home. On the right is the photo taken from our living room window - combined with the smoke in the air the view was frightening. And magnificent at the same time.

They say there are good fires, ecologically crucial, clearing out dead brush and returning nutrients to the soil. So, what are the criteria to determine when wildfires are not anymore compatible with humans?
