Ornitofauna
otoka Brača
(The ornithofauna of the island of Brač)
by Antun Cvitanić was published
in Brački zbornik br. 14
(The anthology of the island of Brač,
Vol.14) in 1984. It is an excellent nature observation study
comprising over 40 years of field work, following appearance and
disappearance of bird species, their local populations, their
habits, in detail. Like some other good writings on the island’s
nature in the Vol. 14, which is out of print and scarce in the
libraries, Ornithofauna is inexcusably over- looked. That’s
the reason I’m bringing forward the scans of those valuable
pages. The scans are ‘dead’ text but I’ve improved the accessibility
by linking them to the Contents. Also, I’ve
appended three linkable indices: scientific (Latin) , common
Croatian, and local (Brač) bird
names.
True,
the text of Ornitofauna is poorly edited, there are quite
a few typos; I did not bother to correct them on the scans, but
I tried my best to avoid them in the Contents and Indices. True also, Ornitofauna
is printed on low quality paper, so the scans’ read- ability is
only moderate.
If
you read Croatian, enjoy the Cvitanić’s
narrative.
