CRC Handbook presentation of solar radiation and its geographical and seasonal variations is based on:

I believe there is a typo in the CRC Handbook presentation because data for Jun 2 are unlikely to be for that date (except if this is some large anomaly); here these data are associated with Jun 20. In fact, when curve fitting of data for 40o latitude was performed, both Jun 20 and Jul 2 (the other conceivable typo) showed good conformity while Jun 2 did not fit at all. At this time I did not check the Smithsonian Meteorological Tables.
