kilobyte
(abbreviated kB): a unit of information or
computer storage equal to either 1024 or 1000 bytes; the term kilobyte
was first coined for a value of 1024 bytes (210), because
210 is roughly one thousand and its power of two made it
convenient for use in computing; however, the SI prefix kilo
(k) implies factor of 1000 and it is used when expressing quantities
commonly stated as power of 10, e.g. bit rate, clock speed, and bus
bandwidth; |
